COLD SPRING – Residents in the Haldane School District in Cold Spring will receive updated school tax bills in the mail this week because a calculation error accidentally removed STAR exemptions.
The Putnam County Finance Department, which prepares the bills, said a “file control error” caused the STAR exemptions to be removed.
The updated invoices have been printed on pink paper with the words “Corrected Bill” at the top.
The STAR exemption is available to homeowners who have received the reduction on their primary residence and have a combined income of up to $250,000 annually. New homeowners with a household income of up to $500,000 annually must register for the STAR credit.
Residents with questions or concerns regarding the bill error may call the Commissioner of Finance Office in Carmel at 845-808-1075.
