MIDDLE HOPE – Twenty dogs have been saved from a hoarding situation in a home in Middle Hope by the nonprofit agency Take Me Home Pet Rescue.
While the group did not specify where the hoarding had taken place, they rescued two ‘accidental’ litters of puppies; six around seven months old, and 12 just five weeks old. One puppy in the younger litter had already died, and 11 were found crowded together in a single crate.
The pet rescue group did not have the space or resources to take that many dogs at one time.
Foster homes and caregivers took in smaller groups of pups, keeping littermates together.
Other organizations stepped up to help place older dogs, including Hudson Paws Dog Rescue, Dutchess County SPCA, and The Incredible Pups Pet Rescue.
The dogs’ owner has kept two adult females and was not required to surrender any dogs, as rescues do not have the authority to remove pets from home, group officials said.
