GREENWOD LAKE – Budget cuts in the Greenwood Lake Union Free School District slashed funding for field trips and student clubs, until now.

State Senator James Skoufis (D, Cornwall) announced on Friday that he has secured $56,000 to restore both programs.

“Research shows that when kids are able to join school clubs, go on field trips, or enjoy recess on the playground, they do better in school and life,” he said.

He said the funding will help students “get the most out of their experience in school, without putting an additional burden on local taxpayers.”

This grant is in addition to $150,000 Skoufis secured for the renovated elementary school playground.

“This is a really clear example of what can happen when schools and elected officials work together to put children first,” said Superintendent of Schools Sarah Hadden.
