Doggy paddles galore in Fitchburg

FITCHBURG — An end of summer dog swim paw-ty was recently held at the J. Robert Crowley pool on Townsend Street.

“This ‘Bone-afide’ pool party is $10 per pup and benefits the Fitchburg Parks & Recreation Department! Lifeguards will be on duty!” Mayor Sam Squailia posted on social media ahead of the Aug. 22 affair that drew many furry friends and their humans.

Dogs of all breeds, ages, and sizes — some with life jackets on — were happy to do some laps in the pool, the last day it was open for the season, while their owner and the mayor looked on. City resident Jeff Nicholson captured the special event and shared pictures of the playful pooches on his JN Photography social media.

He was tickled that a brown dog appeared to have a smile on his face while swimming and spoke about a small black dog he also took a photo of.

“The owner was mentioning how the dog does not much have time left,” Nicholson shared. “You could tell how much she loved the pup.”
