POUGHKEEPSIE – Three inmates at Green Haven Correctional Facility in Stormville have each been indicted on two felony counts of assault for allegedly attacking correction officers working in the facility. The indictments against Ryan Laws, 48, Carine Reeves, 46, and Emmanuel Valentin-Perez, 23, were unsealed today (Thursday), according to Dutchess County DA Anthony Parisi.
The indictment alleges that on September 16, 2024, Ryan Laws struck a corrections officer with his hands and a food tray and pushed them against a wall, causing injuries and substantial pain. The Reeves indictment alleges that the inmate struck a corrections officer several times in the face and head, causing injuries and substantial pain on July 17, 2024. Valentin-Perez’s indictment accuses him of striking a corrections officer several times in the face and head, causing injuries and substantial pain on January 3, 2025.
Parisi said, “These indictments send a clear message: violence against corrections officers will be met with decisive action and full accountability. The men and women who serve in our correctional facilities perform an extraordinarily difficult and dangerous job, placing themselves in harm’s way every day to maintain safety and order.” He also said, “An individual’s incarceration does not place violence beyond the reach of the law. When corrections officers are assaulted, our Office will investigate thoroughly and prosecute those responsible to the fullest extent permitted by law. Protecting corrections officers is essential not only to their safety, but also to the security of every person who works or is housed within our correctional facilities.”
The DA’s Office has been working closely with correctional authorities to investigate and prosecute cases involving assaults on corrections officers at state correctional facilities located in Dutchess County. Additional indictments related to incidents at the facilities are expected in the coming weeks.
Senior Assistant District Attorney Anthony DeFazio is prosecuting the cases.
