ELLENVILLE – The Village of Ellenville Building Department is urging residents and property owners to prioritize safety when charging and storing e-bikes and micromobility devices under New York State Fire and Building Safety standards. Officials advise only using certified UL listed batteries and manufacturer approved chargers.

Village Code Enforcement Officer Dan Pollan says to use common sense. “Be careful. You got to use your head. Common sense tells you if this can start a fire, where do you want the fire to happen? Not inside your apartment, not inside your house. And definitely not near an exit,” Pollan said.
Knowing about your battery is important, he says. “You gotta stick with the manufacturer’s battery. You can’t cut corners to save cost. Make sure the battery has the underwriters Laboratory label on it. That’s one way to see if you have a tested battery that that passes their standards.”
