Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

DEAR BONNIE: I am so sad lately as I realize my heart gets hurt over and over again from family and friends who constantly let me down. What happened to loyalty? My circle is becoming smaller and I am left feeling sad and disappointed. I try to take the high road but how do we spiritually know what is the right way to handle situations? Thanks, Leona

DEAR LEONA: Disappointment in others is one of the most painful human experiences because it hits right where our love and trust live. When friends family or soul connections drop the ball or act out of alignment it is easy to feel bitter or resentful. From a higher spiritual vantage point however every emotional sting carries a deep lesson for our growth. People are not in our lives to live up to our ideal projections. They are here as mirrors and soul teachers showing us where we are still attached to specific outcomes. When you reframe hurt as a spiritual doorway you move away from victimhood and step into deep inner peace.

Recognize the Human Experience

Step one is honoring human imperfection while remembering your true divine nature. We often put people on pedestals expecting them to act with total awareness and absolute maturity. Yet every soul on this planet is navigating their own path filled with fear conditioning and unhealed wounds. When someone disappoints you remember that their behavior is a reflection of their current level of consciousness and not a reflection of your worth. Forgive their human limits without invalidating your own feelings.

Release Unspoken Expectations

Step two requires turning your focus inward to look at implicit contracts and unspoken conditions. Much of our sorrow comes not from what people actually did but from the phantom story of what we expected them to do. Ask yourself if you were loving them for who they truly are or loving a future potential you constructed in your mind. Releasing expectations allows you to love people as they are right now while simultaneously freeing yourself from constant heartache and silent resentment.

Set Sacred Boundaries

Step three is creating healthy energetic boundaries grounded in self love and discernment. Spiritual growth does not mean becoming a doormat or allowing toxic patterns to repeat without end. Unconditional love for another soul can exist alongside clear conditional access to your personal space and energy. Blessing someone from afar is a powerful spiritual act that protects your peace. When you set boundaries without anger you honor both your own sanctuary and their individual soul journey.

Every soul path involves friction and every disappointment is a call to return to your own sacred center. The universe constantly reminds us that true security peace and unconditional love can never be tethered to the fluctuating actions of others. Shift your attention back to your own spiritual growth and trust that every relational challenge is simply refining your capacity to love wisely.

I hope these steps will help you in some way. Life can be painful especially when it involves family and friends that mean so much to us. Remember to honor imperfections release expectations and remember that spiritual contracts we made with each other may be showing up. And then live your life with those healthy energetic boundaries.
