NEW PALTZ – As the new 2026/2027 academic year starts soon, Dr. Darrell Wheeler, president of , gathered faculty, staff and a few students Friday in a lecture hall for his State of the University address.
After thanking the faculty and staff for the work they do on campus, Wheeler touted some of the accomplishments recently at the university.
“As I enter my fifth year as president,” he said, in his opening remarks, “I’ve learned from so many of you that shape the ways I see and understand New Paltz, its historical development and future opportunities.”
Wheeler spoke of how alumni are now helping with student recruitment as scholar mentors, and how the program has been a success.
“This is a unique opportunity for these students, and we are generating a great deal of response,” he said.
Improving the campus’ infrastructure is also a priority, and Wheeler made note of efforts to improve the campus’ quality of life by focusing on those needs.
“Work made improvement on ancient infrastructure,” he said. “The operations are still the multiple strategic plan by supporting students’ success, operational excellence, sustainability, and to engage in campus experiences through exceptional service, facility improvements and enhance abilities.”
