The Ottawa Senators made the playoffs last season. Ottawa was swept in the first-round against the Carolina Hurricanes. Brady Tkachuk did not want to play in the Canadian market anymore and he wanted to go the American market. He was traded away to the Florida Panthers. Brady will now be playing with his brother Matthew Tkachuk in Florida.

It will be interesting to see how this is going to play out for Brady. There are people on the Senators who loved him and no doubt will miss him. Moving forward, Tim Stutzle will be the best player on Ottawa. During the 2025-2026 NHL season, Stutzle played in 80 games and scored 34 goals and recorded 49 assists, along with a plus/minus rating of +7.

As the 2026-2027 NHL season approaches, many players on the Senators realize that things are going to be different without Tkachuk being around this season. Stutzle said to David Alter of The Hockey News’ on Friday about the situation,

“”I feel like you’re always surprised over a big move like that. Yeah, we’re going to miss him, but at the end of the day we have to focus on what’s ahead and what we have in Ottawa. We have a lot of guys who love being in Ottawa — and I’m sure he did too. It was just time for him to move on and we’ve got to accept that.”

Tkachuk last season played in 60 games last season with Ottawa. He scored 22 goals and recorded 37 assists, along with a plus/minus rating of +4. Ottawa was able to acquire several draft picks in the trade that sent Brady to Florida. Stutzle knows that he is going to need to be the leader of this Senators organization moving forward with Tkachuk no longer here.
