NEW YORK- Jonathan Makeley, of Western New York, is running for governor as the Prohibition Party’s candidate, mounting a write-in campaign against the major-party candidates.
Makeley, a historian who focuses on American reform movements, said he is running to provide an alternative to the state’s major political parties and draw attention to issues affecting the lives, health and well-being of New Yorkers.
Because of the state’s ballot-access requirements, Makeley said he is running as a write-in candidate. Voters would have to write his name in the appropriate space on the ballot in November.
Makeley has spent his career in local communities, promoting social reform and advocating for policies intended to advance public welfare. He said his campaign will focus on issues important to New Yorkers and policies he believes can help move the state forward.
“I am running to offer a positive alternative to the major parties, to speak on the important issues affecting the lives, health, and well-being of New Yorkers, and to advocate for policies to help move our state forward,” Makeley said.
