LEOMINSTER — Children and their caregivers will have the opportunity to spread kindness one bouquet at a time during “Kindness in Bloom!” at the Leominster Public Library.

The hands-on program will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25, in the Children’s Program Room on the library’s first floor, 30 West St.

Designed for children ages 4 to 14 and their caregivers, the workshop invites families to work together to create simple floral bouquets using recycled jars and locally sourced flowers.

Participants will also make uplifting cards to accompany the bouquets, which will be given to members of the community who could use a little encouragement.

The program aims to promote kindness, connection and compassion through a creative, family-centered activity.

All children must be accompanied by a caregiver, as the workshop is intended to be completed together.

The workshop is being organized and led by Lisa Novelli and Deb Consalvo, founder of the local volunteer group You’ve Been Flowered!, along with several volunteers who will assist during the evening.

Participants will also have the opportunity to learn from local floral expert Marcia Levesque, owner of Marcia Lee Bliss Floral, who will share her expertise and help teach the children how to create their bouquets.

Flowers for the workshop will be provided by Kelly’s Flower Brook Farm in Westminster, giving families an opportunity to work with locally grown flowers while supporting a local farm.

The workshop was inspired by You’ve Been Flowered!, which is celebrating five years of spreading kindness throughout the community. Volunteers gather flowers from local gardens and fields, arrange them in repurposed jars and vases, add handwritten messages of encouragement, and anonymously deliver the bouquets to businesses, schools, nursing homes, community organizations, first responders and others who could use a smile.

“We hope the effort reminds people that even the smallest act of kindness can brighten someone’s day and let them know they matter,” said Consalvo.

Registration is required and opens on Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 9 a.m. For more information or to register, visit the library’s calendar at leominsterlibrary.org or call 978-534-7522.

The program is supported by a grant from the Leominster Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, in partnership with the City of Leominster.
