Kevin Garnett was the fifth overall pick in the 1995 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. He spent many years with Minnesota before being traded to the Boston Celtics prior to the 2007-2008 NBA season. Garnett won an NBA title with Boston the same season against the Los Angeles Lakers in six games. After the 2012-2013 season, he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets. He then went back to the Timberwolves during the middle of the 2014-2015 NBA season.

His final NBA season was in 2015-2016 with Minnesota. Well, the Timberwolves announced that on Thursday that his #21 jersey will be finally getting retired on Sunday, February 28th against the Celtics. This is not a surprise that this is going to be happening. It would not be a surprise that if many Boston and Minnesota Garnett jerseys were in the stands that night as well.

There are a lot of Timberwolves fans who are pumped about Garnett having his jersey number finally being retired. This is what Minnesota fans had to say about it on Twitter:
Good for him – glad it’s finally happening! Well deserved.
Watching him face off against my dude @swish41 was always fun.

It took a literal change in franchise ownership for Kevin Garnett to even look in Target Center’s direction again. The Wolves didn’t set a date; Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore just had to buy the team so KG would stop pretending the franchise didn’t exist.

Minnesota has a chance to make this a special night for him. However, the fact that Garnett’s jersey is being retired against Boston makes other fans feel suspicious.
