The dog days of August are officially here. And while you may feel like hibernating until September and its cooler days arrive, there’s art and festivals that say get out and enjoy it despite the heat and humidity.

“What If?” Is this month’s offering in the Art in City Hall Lowell exhibition schedule. Curated by Maxine Farkas, this exhibit showcases the creativity of Lowell Senior Center artists John Brickels, Britton Boughner, Michelle Durand, Emily Ferrara, Laurence Johnston, Geoffrey Mahfuz, Dave Phaneuf and Eleni Zhodi.

The city of Lowell started Art in City Hall in 2023 as a monthly art show featuring the work of local artists and galleries. The public is welcome to view these art shows during City Hall hours. Coming in September is the Arts League of Lowell show.

EN GARDE — At the Worcester Art Museum The Arms and Armor galleries will be open on Sunday, Aug. 16, to allow people to explore during “Free Day: A World of Arms and Armor,” with free admission and extended hours, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Transport yourself to a world of arms and armor during a summertime celebration for all ages. Discover more than 1,000 pieces of arms and armor from across time and around the globe in the museum’s Arms and Armor Galleries. Meet reenactors from across time, witness dramatic swordplay demonstrations, get hands-on with life-like replicas, and enjoy rousing performances by puppeteers, African drummers, cosplayers and roaming musicians. Tree House Brewing Company will set up a pop-up beer garden from 4 to 7 pm. Visit www.worcesterart.org/exhibitions for info and details.

GALLERY NOTES SAVE THE DATE — It’s never too early to start planning for the holidays and the Whistler House Museum of Art is doing that with its Save the Date notice about its annual Holiday Party and Art Auction. The fun gets underway on Dec. 4 and it includes a dinner, open bar, and silent and live auctions. So, save the date and get ready to party.
