The Minnesota Vikings have officially named Kyler Murray as the starting quarterback for the 2026 NFL season. With this being the case, quarterback J.J. McCarthy will be the backup quarterback. He was a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft from the Michigan Wolverines. With this being the case, is there a chance that McCarthy could be traded?

He is only 23 years old, but it appears as if he is a bust already. This is why the general manager was fired in the off-season. They made a mistake keeping him for quarterback Sam Darnold. Which teams could McCarthy be traded too this year?
The Los Angeles Chargers

There is no doubt that McCarthy could reunite with former head coach John Harbaugh. Justin Herbert is the starting quarterback. However, the Chargers could use a different kind of backup quarterback potentially. McCarthy going from Minnesota to Los Angeles would be good for him.
Dallas Cowboys
Do the Dallas Cowboys need an understudy for quarterback Dak Prescott? This would be a good chance for Dallas to get a young quarterback in the room and learn under Dak. Yes, they tried it with Trey Lance, but McCarthy could be a different situation here.
New York Jets
The New York Jets have a young nucleus of players. Quarterback Geno Smith has looked awful. He was benched last season. The Jets do have Cade Klubnik on the roster. Another thing is, McCarthy being with Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson Jr., Kenyon Sadiq, Adonai Mitchell, and Omar Cooper Jr. could bode well in a new environment. This would be his last chance to prove himself. If he can’t play for the Jets, then McCarthy belongs in the CFL also.
