NEWBURGH – Residents of Newburgh are growing impatient to learn the results of the investigation into the death of Marcus Burks on January 1 while being taken into custody by city police officers.
Several called on the city council Monday night to speed up the investigation and release its findings.
“There was an internal investigation done months ago and that internal investigation was presented to the entire city council in executive session,” he said. “We are limited on what we can say because this is a very volatile matter. It is highly litigious and it is with the New York State Attorney General’s Office.”
An autopsy conducted by the Orange County Coroner’s Office ruled that Burk’s death was a homicide.
