WAPPINGERS FALLS- State Senator Rob Rolison (R, Poughkeepsie) is again pressing New York Attorney General Letitia James for an update on litigation involving a partially collapsed stone wall and a sidewalk that has been closed along West Main Street (Route 9D) in the Village of Wappingers Falls.

Rolison sent a follow-up letter to James on August 4, following a recent phone conversation between the two and an earlier letter he sent April 30 seeking information about the case.

The senator is asking for an update on the status of the litigation, developments since his conversation with James and the anticipated next steps.

He also requested information about any engineering, design, repair or construction work that is planned or underway in connection with the wall, as well as a projected timeline for repairing the structure and reopening the sidewalk.

The wall and sidewalk have remained an issue for nearly six years, according to Rolison.  The continued sidewalk closure has raised concerns about pedestrian safety and frustrated residents and others who travel through the village.

“As you know, this matter has remained unresolved for nearly six years,” Rolison wrote in his letter.  “The continued closure of the sidewalk presents an ongoing public safety concern and remains a source of frustration for those who live, work, and travel through the Village of Wappingers Falls.”

Rolison said he was seeking the update in response to continued public interest in the condition of the wall and sidewalk.

The litigation involves the parties responsible for the property and the state, though Rolison’s letter did not provide additional details about the status or substance of the case.

The Senator said he would like to see a clear timeline for the work needed to stabilize or replace the wall and restore pedestrian access along West Main Street.
