LANCASTER — For Massachusetts author Matt Landry, hiking is about more than reaching the summit. It is about reflection, connection and discovering the stories — both personal and historical — that shape the journey.
Landry will share that perspective during “Mount Wachusett: Hiking and History” at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Thayer Memorial Library, 717 Main St.
The program is based on his book, “Mount Wachusett Hiking Guide and History,” which combines the mountain’s many trails with the fascinating history surrounding one of Massachusetts’ most recognizable landmarks.
During the presentation, Landry will provide an overview of Wachusett’s hiking opportunities while exploring the mountain’s role in local history and the many ways it has brought people together through the years. From peaceful walks through wooded paths to challenging climbs offering panoramic views, Mount Wachusett continues to inspire outdoor enthusiasts, families, and those seeking a deeper connection with nature.
Located in Princeton and Westminster, Mount Wachusett has long been a place of beauty, mystery, and discovery. Landry’s work encourages hikers to slow down, look closer and appreciate the stories found along the way.
A writer, speaker and lifelong student of the human experience, Landry’s work is shaped by personal growth, resilience and the lessons learned through life’s challenges. He believes nature can serve as a teacher and a reminder of what truly matters.
“Nature has been both my teacher and my steady reminder of what really matters,” Landry said.
While his Mount Wachusett talks focus on hiking, trails and history, Landry’s other books, presentations and workshops explore themes of resilience, lifelong learning and personal growth.
His connection to the mountains continues beyond his writing as well; during the summer, he works in a seasonal position on Mount Washington, where he lives on the summit for a week at a time.
Landry will also present “Mount Wachusett Hiking and History” at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Townsend Public Library, 12 Dudley Road. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, the program will again explore the trails, stories, and rich history of one of Massachusetts’ most beloved landmarks. The presentation will combine an overview of the mountain’s hiking trails with local history, offering insight into the many ways Mount Wachusett has inspired adventure, community, and connection over the years.
Copies of Matt Landry’s books are available through CWMARS.
