Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

It’s August but summer isn’t over yet. In fact, some of the best entertainment, theater-wise, lies ahead.

Mechanics Hall in Worcester continues its popular summer tradition of free lunchtime Worcester Organ concerts, welcoming audiences at noon each Wednesday in August to experience one of the nation’s most extraordinary historic pipe organs.

At the heart of each performance is the Worcester Organ, Mechanics Hall’s celebrated 1864 Hook organ. Built by Elias and George Hook, it remains the oldest unaltered four-keyboard pipe organ in the Western Hemisphere still in its original home.

“Each artist in this series brings a distinct musical perspective to the Worcester Organ,” said Peter Krasinski, principal organist at Mechanics Hall. “The instrument’s remarkable versatility allows for an extraordinary range of musical expression, and these performances will showcase everything from dynamic, colorful works to music of great subtlety and depth. Together, they offer audiences a fuller appreciation of what this historic organ can do.”

“These concerts demonstrate that preservation isn’t just about caring for a historic instrument – it’s about making sure people can experience it,” added Meghan Montaner, executive director of Mechanics Hall.

All concerts are approximately one hour in length. Admission is free and open to the public, but registration is encouraged. Guests are welcome to bring lunch or enjoy refreshments at concessions.

The series takes place in the Great Hall of Mechanics Hall, 3rd floor of 321 Main Street, Worcester. It accessible by elevator from the Waldo Street entrance, or by stairs from both the Main Street and Waldo Street entrances.
