YONKERS – Police in the City of Yonkers have arrested a 15-year-old youth in connection with the fatal shooting of one person and the wounding of four others on the evening of Sunday, August 2, near Palisade Avenue and Elm Street. Police are calling it “a targeted act of group violence.”

At about 8:45 p.m., an on-duty Yonkers captain heard several gunshots, rushed to the scene and saw a suspect fleeing on foot. He was apprehended within minutes a block from the scene.

The fatal victim was a 20-year-old man who was shot in the back. Brandon Garcia of Yonkers was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The four wounded teens were a 16-year-old boy who was shot in the left shoulder; a 15-year-old boy who suffered a gunshot to the left thigh; a 15-year-old boy who was shot in the stomach; and a 14-year-old girl who was shot in the left leg.

The wounded victims were taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition, police said.

Investigators said the firearm was recovered and the shooting was a targeted act of group violence and not a random attack.
