U.S. Central Command released footage Wednesday night from a two-hour wave of retaliatory strikes against Iran, targeting command centers, missile and drone facilities, coastal defenses and maritime capabilities after Iranian forces attempted to attack American troops stationed in the Middle East.
The operation marked the second consecutive night of U.S. strikes against Iran and followed President Donald Trump’s warning that Tehran would face a forceful response.
“At 10 p.m. ET on July 29, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces successfully completed a heavy wave of strikes against Iran in response to yesterday’s attempted missile attacks on U.S. forces,” CENTCOM said.
“CENTCOM assets struck dozens of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets in Iran, including military command centers, missile and drone facilities, coastal surveillance and defense sites, and maritime capabilities. The strikes aimed to further diminish threats posed by Iran and its proxies to American forces, commercial shipping, and neighboring Gulf countries.”
CENTCOM said the operation began at 8 p.m. Eastern time and continued for approximately two hours.
“U.S. forces began launching strikes against Iran at 8 p.m. ET today. The strikes are a powerful response to yesterday’s attempted Iranian attacks on U.S. forces based in the Middle East,” the command announced.
The retaliation followed an attempted surprise attack July 28 in which the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched multiple ballistic missiles from Iran toward U.S. forces in the region. CENTCOM said every incoming missile was intercepted.
“On July 28, IRGC forces launched multiple ballistic missiles from Iran in an attempted surprise attack on U.S. forces based in the Middle East. All Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted,” CENTCOM said.
More than 50,000 American service members are currently deployed across the Middle East. The command said those forces “remain highly vigilant, focused, lethal, and ready.”
Trump previewed the latest military response during an interview with Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst.
“We’re going to beat the fcking sht out of them,” Trump said.
“We’ll be hitting them hard. They’re going to get a beating,” he added.
The renewed fighting came only days after Trump halted an almost two-week U.S. bombing campaign against Iran to allow negotiations scheduled for Friday to continue.
“We are in very deep talks with Iran. If they don’t work out, we will go back to very strong military action,” Trump said Monday.
Iran’s attempted missile attack Tuesday prompted an initial U.S. response that night. CENTCOM said American forces intercepted the missiles before carrying out retaliatory operations.
The U.S. military also conducted a joint strike with the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces against Iran-aligned groups operating in eastern Iraq.
“U.S. and Saudi fighter aircraft struck multiple terrorist logistics and weapons sites across eastern Iraq in a strong response to over 30 IRGC-directed aerial drone attacks in the last 72 hours,” CENTCOM said.
The latest wave of strikes was intended to reduce Iran’s ability to threaten U.S. troops, nearby Gulf countries and commercial vessels operating in the region. CENTCOM said the targets included infrastructure supporting Iran’s missile, drone, surveillance, defensive and maritime operations.
