WORCESTER — Legendary artist, trumpeter, philanthropist, and record executive Herb Alpert will be performing at The Hanover Theatre on Aug. 2.
The 91-year-old multiple Grammy winner reformed his iconic Tijuana Brass band last year for the first time in 40 years for a special series of tour dates across the country and now they are coming to Worcester. In 2025, Alpert released his 50th studio album, celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with his wife and touring partner Lani Hall, and continued to play sold-out shows around the world.
With an all-new lineup, the Tijuana Brass tour is commemorating Alpert’s seminal album “Whipped Cream & Other Delights,” which was originally released in April of 1965, becoming an instant classic and spending several weeks at #1 on the Billboard Albums Chart and earning three Grammy awards.
They will be performing all the classic hits — “The Lonely Bull,” “Spanish Flea,” “Taste of Honey,” “This Guy’s In Love With You” — and more. Alpert released a special 60th anniversary edition of “Whipped Cream & Other Delights” in April of last year, which has been remastered from its original analog tapes, pressed on high quality 180-gram vinyl, and includes a special vinyl picture disc featuring the iconic and enduring album cover image.
From 1965 to 1966, Alpert’s albums sold 13.3 million records in the U.S. alone, ultimately out-selling The Beatles — a monumental feat at the height of Beatlemania. His extraordinary musicianship has earned him nine Grammy awards over his illustrious career, the latest from his 2014 album “Steppin’ Out,” 15 gold albums, 14 platinum albums, and has sold over 72 million records.

Alpert has a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006, and in 2013 was awarded the National Medal of Arts by President Barack Obama. He also has a second career as an abstract expressionist painter and sculptor, with group and solo exhibitions around the United States and Europe.
Through the Herb Alpert Foundation, Albert and his wife have dedicated their lives to philanthropy, funding programs that help bring creativity to young students and keep creativity alive for all the arts, for artists young and old, including jazz education and programs that teach compassion and well-being.
May 2024 marked the 30th anniversary of the Herb Alpert Award in the Arts, celebrating the award’s history and its 174 awardees in music, dance, film, theatre, and visual arts. The newly remodeled Harlem School of the Arts at the Herb Alpert Center, which was funded entirely by the couple, opened in 2021. During the pandemic, the foundation dramatically increased its emergency funding to artists in need through organizations such as Chrysalis, the Jazz Foundation, the Good People’s Fund and Artists Relief.
The Tijuana Brass tour comes on the heels of his landmark 50th studio album, aptly named “50,” which when released in the fall of 2024 was met with widespread critical acclaim from The New York Times, Billboard, AARP, NPR’s Weekend Edition, Paste, and NPR’s World Cafe, among many others. In addition, it debuted at #1 on the Luminate Current Contemporary Jazz Albums chart, #4 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz chart, and #17 on the Billboard jazz chart.
