“Who knew the DNC would pick ‘Les Grossman’ as the head of their [party].”

A New York Times report about the supposed cash-poor Democratic National Committee is not sitting well with MS Now host Joe Scarborough.

The Times story was headlined “Inside the Phone-Throwing Drama at the Troubled, Broke Democratic Party.”

“This is so pathetic,” Scarborough lamented on the Morning Joe chat show, as the midterm elections approach, particularly in the context of DNC chair Ken Martin’s tenure.

“Why is this guy still in his job? Will Democrats once again snatch defeat from the jaws of victory?,”  Scarborough, a former Republican congressman who suffers from Trump derangement syndrome, wondered.

During his table-pounding rant, Scarborough seemed fixated on the Les Grossman character from the movie Tropic Thunder.

Although big spending doesn’t necessarily correlate with success, momentum for Democrats to take control of Congress may be stalled because of lack of resources, the Times claimed:

“The Democratic Party is so short on cash that leaders at its headquarters have undertaken a new gambit to mask the severity of the problems: asking vendors not to send bills until after the midterm elections….dysfunction and debt inside one of the party’s key institutions — which is getting crushed in fund-raising by its Republican counterpart — are creating rising anxiety for top Democrats. At the center is Ken Martin, the 53-year-old party chairman…”

Martin is “increasingly isolated” and uptight and/or paranoid about his job security, the Times implied..

The Times also asserted that “the Democratic Party and its allies are far behind Republicans when it comes to money. Mr. Trump controls a $400 million super PAC, and the Republican National Committee is sitting on nearly $130 million. Mr. Martin’s D.N.C. is $2 million in debt.”

The Times report omits any mention of the money that individual Democrat candidates are raising or the amount of cash that billionaires like George Soros are spending to get Democrats elected.

Or the cheerleading that Democrats usually receive from the corporate media.

Commons sense suggests that party insiders might have planted this deep dive into DNC finances with the compliant Times as a way to potentially oust Martin, especially with the expectation that the story would be amplified by other media outlets.

Separately, the NOTUS newsroom reported on Sunday that “The Democratic National Committee put its physical headquarters up for collateral last year in order to obtain a $15 million line of credit to help invest in off-year elections, according to D.C. deed records not previously reported.”

As alluded to above, the Times report called attention to an alleged encounter when Martin “In a pique of frustration in early July, threw his phone at the desk of a junior aide while upbraiding the person.”

That seemingly minor incident that the Times included as an example of Martin’s “fraying nerves” seemed to animate Scarborough:

“… Who knew the DNC would pick Les Grossman as the head of their [party]…when Democrats should be doing better than ever, Ken Martin is mortgaging the DNC to be able to pay bills. Let’s say that again: You have a DNC head that is mortgaging the building so he can take out a loan.

“And when he’s not doing that, the New York Times reports that he’s going full — and you never go full Les Grossman — but he’s gone full Les Grossman, throwing the phone at the desk of someone…”

Scarborough’s remedy is to replace Martin with somebody like Rahm Emanuel, the Obama White House chief of staff and later Chicago mayor, who “knows how to fight, win, and raise money.”

NewsBusters contributing editor Mark Finkelstein, who shared a video clip on X (formerly Twitter) of the longer MS Now discussion, explained that “Les Grossman was the foul-mouthed, object-throwing, permanently enraged Hollywood studio boss Tom Cruise played in the 2008 comedy Tropic Thunder — a character of pure, unhinged intensity who never met a problem he couldn’t scream at.”

As an aside, it may be worth mentioning that woke Hollywood would never make a comedy like Tropic Thunder today.

Nor would its director and star Ben Stiller, a far-left liberal, presumably ever go near this kind of project now, either.

See below for a video montage of A-list actor Tom Cruise in his role as Les Grossman (warning for language) including a snippet of his famous dance routine that accompanied the movie’s end credits.
