PORT JERVIS – Port Jervis Police are investigating the July 26, Sunday afternoon shooting of a 40-year-old man at 158 Pike Street.  Details about the Port Jervis shooting – including how it occurred – remain under active investigation and not yet available.

Police Chief William Worden, who was on scene and reached shortly after the shooting was reported, told Mid-Hudson News that officers received a report at about 2:15 p.m. that a subject had been shot in the leg. Upon arrival, about a minute after receiving the report, officers found the victim with a gunshot wound to the thigh.

The officers immediately rendered aid, including packing the wound with QuikClot, a specialized clotting gauze carried by all officers, along with other medical supplies, should it be required for a traumatic injury.

Upon arrival of EMS, additional aid was rendered and the individual was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill for further advanced care.

As of late afternoon, Worden said the subject was in surgery.  An update on his condition was not immediately available.

A search warrant was requested shortly after the shooting, with a forensic scene planned to be established in the building and apartment where the shooting occurred to further determine exactly what transpired.

State Police from the Greenville barrack and the Orange County District Attorney’s office are assisting Port Jervis Police detectives in the investigation.
