LEOMINSTER — Author and photographer Susan Mara Bregman will take audiences on a journey along one of New England’s most historic highways during her presentation, “Along Route 1 — Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts,” at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5, at the Leominster Public Library, 30 West St.

Bregman traveled Route 1 from Fort Kent, Maine, to Attleboro, Massachusetts, documenting the highway’s rich history, quirky roadside attractions and unexpected treasures. Her presentation will feature the unique destinations found along the route, from lobster shacks and colonial taverns to vintage neon signs, giant statues and other nostalgic landmarks that capture the character of New England.

A photographer with a passion for preserving the overlooked and unusual, Bregman has spent years celebrating the traditions that make New England unique. Her fascination with vintage neon signs inspired her first book, New England Neon, followed by books exploring candlepin bowling, Route 1 attractions, regional sweets, and, most recently, Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, which uncovers the hidden history and colorful characters behind two of Boston’s best-known landmarks.

“Along Route 1” grew from Bregman’s fascination with the stories found along the iconic highway. Through her photography and research, she shines a light on the small businesses, landmarks, and pieces of Americana that might otherwise be overlooked or forgotten.

The program is free and open to the public. No registration is required.

Bregman will also present a virtual program, “The History of Faneuil Hall & Quincy Market,” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18, hosted by the Tewksbury Public Library. Based on her newest book, the presentation explores the hidden history and colorful characters behind two of Boston’s most iconic landmarks. Registration is required through the Tewksbury Public Library.
