Derek Anderson

CARMEL – Following nine years at the helm of Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel, Dr. Mark Hirko has retired and has been replaced by Derek Anderson, current president of Northern Westchester Hospital in Mt. Kisco.

Anderson, a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, has led Northern Westchester Hospital since 2019.

In making the announcement, Kevin Beiner, Northwell Health chief operating officer, said, “Derek’s blend of strategic vision, operational ability and commitment to patient-centered care makes him exceptionally well-positioned to lead Putnam Hospital into its next phase of growth. Derek’s expanded role will strengthen collaboration between our teams, accelerate the sharing of best practices, and ensure we continue providing outstanding care for patients throughout the region.”

Northwell Health recently assumed ownership of the 164-bed Putnam Hospital in Carmel, the county’s sole full-service medical center.

Anderson began his career with Northwell Health in 2009 as a financial and strategic planning analyst and later held progressive leadership roles at North Shore University Hospital on Long Island.

Anderson called it an “honor to serve the Putnam Hospital community and build upon the remarkable work of Dr. Hirko and the dedicated team members, physicians and volunteers who make this hospital so special.”

He said Putnam Hospital “has a strong history of serving its community with excellence and compassion. I look forward to listening, learning, and working alongside our teams to strengthen services, expand access to care and ensure we continue meeting the evolving needs of the patients and communities we serve.”
