LEOMINSTER — The patriotic handiwork of city resident Marie Flanagan is on display at the library in the form of a crocheted version of the original 13 colonies United States flag.
The beautiful red, white, and blue with gold fringe creation will be featured through July 31st in the community room on the first floor of the Leominster Public Library at 30 West St., coinciding with the celebration of the country’s 250th birthday.
According to information included in the library’s July calendar of events, Marie has called Leominster’s west side home the majority of her life and “her love for the city runs deep.” She enjoys following Leominster events and has attended many of the strolls and fairs over the years.
As a devoted knitter and crocheter, Marie has been handcrafting gifts for the people in her life for a long time and has a deep appreciation for early Americana, which is evident in the crocheted replica of the original Betsy Ross flag hanging in the library.
Marie and her loved ones are delighted that her work — a treasured family heirloom — will be on display at the library through July, “where her neighbors can admire the skill and heart she brings to everything she makes.”
