TOWNSEND — Music, food and family fun will highlight the Townsend Military Band’s concert on Thursday, July 16, while the accompanying lawn party on the Townsend Common will raise funds to support Kids’ Kountry Playground.

The concert will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. under the direction of conductor Thomas Souza. Residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy an evening of music while supporting one of the community’s most popular recreational destinations by visiting the Lawn Party.

Located behind Spaulding Memorial School at the corner of Eastman Street and Turnpike Road, Kids’ Kountry Playground is maintained through fundraising efforts and donations. While the Town of Townsend provides basic upkeep, the playground is not town-funded, making community support essential for operating expenses and future improvements.

Funds raised from this year’s Lawn Party will help cover ongoing expenses, including portable toilets, and continue the committee’s efforts to replace the toddler play area with a new accessible and inclusive play structure. The recently installed inclusive playground has attracted even more families, increasing the need for a second portable restroom from spring through late fall.

The committee recently received a $600 donation from the Townsend Lions Club, which has been a longtime supporter of the playground. The donation will help offset the cost of the additional portable restroom needed because of the increased number of visitors using the playground.

Townsend Cemetery and Parks Department employees will grill hamburgers and hot dogs for sale throughout the evening. Fried dough, popcorn, chips, soda and bottled water will also be available, along with a bake table featuring homemade treats. Children attending the concert can enjoy games on the Common throughout the evening.

The committee is also seeking one additional Townsend resident to serve as a volunteer member. Interested residents may apply through the Town of Townsend website.

Anyone wishing to volunteer at the Lawn Party may contact Karen Clement at [email protected].

Donations may also be mailed to: Town of Townsend, c/o Kids’ Kountry Playground, 272 Main St., Townsend, MA 01469. Checks should be made payable to the Town of Townsend with “Kids’ Kountry Playground” written in the memo line.

The playground is open to everyone and continues to serve as a gathering place for families throughout Townsend and the surrounding communities.
