The Department of Homeland Security said Wednesday that Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested several illegal aliens convicted of serious crimes, including drug trafficking, kidnapping, sexual assault and felony theft, as part of the agency’s “Worst of the Worst” enforcement initiative.
The latest announcement comes as DHS continues an aggressive immigration enforcement campaign under President Donald Trump. The administration has sought to deport as many as 22 million illegal aliens. As of late June, ICE had deported nearly 1 million illegal aliens and facilitated about 2.2 million self-deportations.
DHS said the “Worst of the Worst” initiative is intended to draw attention to criminal offenders arrested by ICE during immigration enforcement operations.
“Yesterday, ICE arrested more sexual assailants, kidnappers, drug traffickers, and other worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens from American communities,” acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said in a statement to Just the News.
Bis said ICE’s arrests are focused heavily on illegal aliens accused or convicted of crimes in the United States.
“Nearly 70% of ICE arrests are of illegal aliens charged or convicted of a crime in the United States,” she said. “While sanctuary politicians continue to release pedophiles, rapists, gang members, and murderers onto their streets, our brave law enforcement will continue to risk their lives to arrest these heinous criminals and make America safe again.”
Among those listed in Wednesday’s roundup was Willian Bueso-Orellana of Honduras, who DHS said was convicted of sexual assault.
The department also identified Yung Ho Lo of China, who was convicted of kidnapping.
Bernardo Campusano-Abreu of the Dominican Republic was listed as convicted of the sale and possession of cocaine and other drugs, possession of narcotics equipment and threatening terroristic offenses.
DHS said Israel Chavez-Tamayo of Mexico was convicted of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin.
The agency also named Tresor Kamona of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, who was convicted of felony larceny.
DHS said the arrests are part of ongoing ICE operations targeting illegal aliens with criminal charges or convictions as the Trump administration continues its broader deportation effort.
