MIDDLETOWN – The long-awaited conversion of the Middletown City Police Headquarters adjacent to City Hall is moving forward.

The $1.8 million work is part of the city’s $9.5 million capital budget, Mayor Joseph DeStefano said.

“The renovations are the old courthouse being converted into city hall offices and police offices and a new system here in the common council chambers; that’s about $1.8 million,” he said.

The current city courts will be relocated to the new courthouse on South Street, which is almost ready for occupancy. That will free up that space for conversion to police department and other needed space at city hall.
