Many have wondered if the trooper who was seen pummeling a fellow statie in a viral video at a bar would ever face any charges.
Well, local police tell the Herald that they’ve applied for a criminal complaint.
The Mass State Police troopers — who were assigned to the Suffolk DA’s office in the elite SPDU unit — threw hands at the ReelHouse Marina Bay brewpub in Quincy on June 26.
One of the troopers, the alleged aggressor, has been relieved of duty. The alleged victim in the bar beating has also been taken off that Suffolk DA assignment while an investigation is ongoing.
Now, the Herald has learned that Quincy Police are seeking charges.
“The Quincy Police Department applied for a criminal complaint in Quincy District Court in connection with an incident that occurred on June 26, 2026 in Marina Bay,” a Quincy Police sergeant wrote in a statement to the Herald. “We have no further information to share at this time.”
The Herald asked for Quincy District Court to provide the criminal complaint application for the alleged aggressor.
“The court is unable to provide the requested documentation at this time,” a court spokesperson said in a statement. “Records are presumptively privileged while a show cause hearing is pending.”
Those who are accused of committing a crime and aren’t arrested will be generally entitled to a show cause hearing.
The hearing is held before a District Court clerk magistrate to determine if there’s probable cause that the person committed a crime. The magistrate will determine whether there’s sufficient evidence to issue the complaint.
The hearing is generally not open to the public.
While the Herald has confirmed the staties’ names, their identities have not been released by police amid the ongoing investigation.
The Herald has also learned the two bar-fight combatants were paid more than $200,000 and $143,000 last year, respectively. The alleged aggressor earned that top pay, state Comptroller records show.
Mass State Police has reported the investigation to the state’s disciplinary board.
In the viral video, the two troopers are seen sitting at the end of the bar. One of them, wearing a black shirt, walks over to the other man, who is wearing a white shirt. The seated man in the white shirt reaches out his arm in what appears to be an attempt to keep the black-shirt man away, but then the man wearing the black shirt throws a punch followed by four or five more and then grabs the man’s head in his hands.
The man in the white shirt appears limp as fellow bar patrons walk in to check on him, and the bartender covers her mouth in apparent shock.
