After three years of calling the Tsongas Center in Lowell its primary home, the Boston Fleet are on the move.
The Fleet, members of the Professional Women’s Hockey League, announced Tuesday the franchise will be switching primary venues next season from the Tsongas to Boston University’s Agganis Arena beginning in the 2026-27 season.
The team has played to sellout crowds in the past at the Agganis.
Danielle Marmer, the Fleet’s general manager, and Laura Marie Davey, the director of business operations, sent a message to the city of Lowell following the announcement.
“On behalf of the entire Boston Fleet organization, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who made our time at the Tsongas Center and in the City of Lowell so meaningful.
“Long before the Fleet had a name, Lowell welcomed us and provided a home for professional women’s hockey. From our inaugural game on Jan. 3, 2024, through three memorable seasons, the Lowell community embraced our team and played an integral role in building the foundation of our organization — and the PWHL.
“Many of the most significant moments in league history took place at the Tsongas Center. Lowell was the site of the first goal in Fleet history, the first game of the inaugural Walter Cup Finals, and the presentation of the first Walter Cup championship. These milestones will forever be part of our story, and they would not have been possible without the unwavering support of this community.
“We are especially grateful to UMass Lowell chancellor Julie Chen, Oak View Group, Tsongas Center general manager Keith Vaske, and the entire Tsongas Center staff. Your partnership, professionalism, and commitment to excellence helped create a first-class environment for our players, staff, and fans from day one. We’re forever grateful for the hospitality you showed us.
“To the local businesses, community organizations, and media members who supported us throughout our time in Lowell, thank you for helping us grow our presence and connect with fans across the region. We are particularly appreciative of the Lowell Sun and Jason Cooke for their thoughtful coverage and dedication to sharing our story with the community.
“To our season ticket members and fans throughout Greater Lowell, thank you for your loyalty, passion, and belief in our team. The atmosphere you created at the Tsongas Center helped establish one of the most vibrant home-ice environments in the PWHL. While our primary home venue is changing, we hope the connections built over the past three seasons will endure, and we look forward to welcoming you to Agganis Arena.
“As the Fleet enters a new chapter, we do so with profound appreciation for the city of Lowell, the fans, and the community that supported us from the very beginning. Lowell will always hold a special place in the history of our organization.
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.”
