GARDNER — Theatre at the Mount will hold auditions for its fall touring production of “How I Became a Pirate,” a musical adaptation of the popular children’s book.

The family-friendly adventure follows young Jeremy Jacob as he joins Captain Braid Beard and his pirate crew, discovering humor, camaraderie and unexpected lessons about life at sea.

Featuring an energetic score, colorful characters and a story emphasizing teamwork, belonging and the comforts of home, the production will be directed by Kyle Carlson, with music direction by Dave Twiss and choreography by Jillian Whitney.

The creative team is seeking an ensemble cast of 8 to 12 teenagers, ages 14 and older.

Auditions will be held by appointment at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, and Wednesday, July 15, in Room A110 at Mount Wachusett Community College, 444 Green St.

Performers will learn a short vocal selection during the audition. Comfortable clothing is recommended for a dance and movement audition, and participants will also be asked to complete cold readings from the script.

The production will be presented at 2 p.m. on Oct. 24, at Theatre at the Mount, 444 Green St.

Touring performances are scheduled for Oct. 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23. Because the tour dates occur on weekdays, performers should anticipate missing school on those days.

Rehearsals are tentatively scheduled to begin Aug. 17 and will be held on Sunday afternoons and Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
