People from Fitchburg and surrounding towns were out in force on Saturday morning to watch the Fitchburg Fourth of July Parade. Families, many with small children, lined both sides of the street with people decked out in red, white and blue, and presumably a lot of sunscreen as the sun shone down creating a perfect day for the parade. Groups included everything from military organizations, including Revolutionary War recreators who shot their muskets in the air as they marched, to the Fitchburg High School Band, Scouting America, Out the 4 Walls Ministry, who waved colorful flags, Mayor Sam Squailia and other officials, the University of Fitchburg was there with its Falcon mascot, Fitchburg Youth Football, Fitchburg Street Hockey League and many other groups, many of which tossed free candy onto the street for children to scramble to pick up. There was also a line of military vehicles, then some tractor-trailer trucks and suped-up ATVs and sports cars showing off their stuff in the parade. Many of the families celebrating the Fourth of July said they were having a good time watching the parade.
