CAMEL – Red Hook’s loss is Carmel’s gain.

The Carmel Board of Education has appointed Amanda Allison as the district’s new Assistant Superintendent of Schools effective August 1.

The announcement came at the board’s initial meeting of the 2026-27 school year Thursday before a large gathering at Carmel High School.

Allison most recently served as Director of Pupil Personnel Services for the Red Hook Central School District, where she oversaw special education programming, mental health initiatives and ENL services.

Carmel School Board President Melissa Orser called Allison a “dynamic educational leader guided by deep compassion and a strong sense of stewardship. Amanda brings a long record of effectiveness and practical know‑how in supporting students, families, and staff, and is widely regarded as a leader in the field of pupil personnel services.”

Carmel Superintendent of Schools Michael Plotkin agreed: “Amanda’s experience and approach will help us further engage our community while keeping a clear focus on what is best for children in every decision we make. Her leadership will strengthen our efforts to support the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students, and to partner closely with families and community members in that work,” he said.
