WEST PARK – The post office in West Park in Ulster County is scheduled to close on July 24 as the building landlord is not renewing the lease, and that could leave the 200 to 300 residents of the hamlet with no local means of collecting their mail.

Group spokeswoman Kathi Snyder said unless a new location can be found, residents will have to drive five miles each way to pick up their mail at the Highland post office.

“The biggest problem is that in West Park, we do not have rural delivery, so the post office provides everyone in West Park with a post office box so that we can get our mail,” she said. “It’s not like it’s some little inconvenience; this is major because this is the only way we can get our mail. We’re going to have to drive 10 miles round trip come July 25th.”

Congressman Pat Ryan has joined the effort to find a new location for the West Park post office.
