TOWNSEND — The VFW Auxiliary to Townsend Post No. 6538 was recognized for its outstanding service and achievements during the 2026 VFW Auxiliary Department of Massachusetts Convention, held recently at the Sheraton Springfield Monarch Place Hotel.
The Townsend Auxiliary received numerous citations and monetary awards for its exceptional participation in and contributions to the programs of the National and Department of Massachusetts VFW Auxiliaries.
Competing in Massachusetts Membership Division 4, which includes 13 auxiliaries with 75 or more members, the Townsend Auxiliary earned first-place honors in the Americanism; Buddy Poppy/VFW National Home; Historian and Media Relations; Scholarships; Veterans and Family Support; and Youth Activities programs. The Auxiliary also received second-place awards in the Legislative and Membership programs.
The Auxiliary was especially honored to be named Auxiliary of the Year in Membership Division 4 during the department convention.
Four officers from the Townsend Auxiliary attended the 101st Annual VFW Auxiliary Department of Massachusetts Convention. During the convention, Past Auxiliary President Dawn Wright was elected Department Chaplain, and Auxiliary Senior Vice President Lynne LeBlanc was elected Department Conductress for the 2026-2027 year.
Several Townsend members were also appointed to statewide leadership positions. Past State Auxiliary President Betty Mae Tenney will serve as the Department Scholarships Program Chairman, Past State Auxiliary President Lisa Jackson was named Department Auxiliary of the Year Chairman, and Lynne LeBlanc will serve as the Department Youth Activities Chairman for the 2026-2027 year.
The VFW Auxiliary to Townsend Post No. 6538 currently has 102 members.
Membership in the VFW Auxiliary is open to husbands, wives, widowers, widows, fathers, mothers, grandfathers, grandmothers, sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, brothers, and sisters of individuals who are or were eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. Members must be at least 16 years of age. Current VFW members and those eligible to join the VFW are not eligible for membership in the VFW Auxiliary.
