A brawl between two off-duty Massachusetts State Police troopers at a Quincy brewpub has the purported aggressor relieved of duty.
“The conduct depicted is serious and inconsistent with the standards required of every member of this Department, whether on duty or off duty,” an MSP spokesperson told the Herald Saturday.
The video shared Saturday by the Instagram account “wtwmass” features a video recording of what appears to be a surveillance video feed from the Reel House in Quincy.
In it, the two troopers are sitting at the end of the bar. One of them, wearing a black shirt, walks over to the other man, who is wearing a white shirt. The seated man in the white shirt reaches out his arm in what appears to be an attempt to keep the black-shirt man away but then the man wearing the black shirt throws a punch followed by four or five more and then grabs the man’s head in his hands.
The man in the white shirt appears limp as fellow bar patrons walk in to check on him and the bartender covers her mouth in apparent shock.
The MSP did not identify either trooper in its statement to the Herald. It did say that the purported aggressor of the two was relieved of duty and that the incident is under investigation.
“Immediately upon learning of the incident, the Department relieved the Trooper seen striking the other Trooper from duty pending a formal duty-status hearing,” according to the MSP statement. “The Department’s Office of Professional Integrity and Accountability is actively investigating the facts and circumstances of the incident, and the Department will take swift and appropriate action based on the findings.”
