President Donald Trump warned Friday that countries moving ahead with digital services taxes on American companies would face immediate 100% tariffs on their goods entering the United States.

Trump issued the warning in a Truth Social post, saying several European nations were discussing digital taxes that would affect U.S. firms. The president said any country that implements such a tax would be met with a sweeping tariff response.

“Numerous European Countries have been discussing the imminent implementation of a Digital Services Tax on American Companies,” Trump wrote. “Some of these Countries are close to actually doing this. Please let this statement serve to represent that any Country that imposes such a Tax will immediately be met with a 100% TARIFF on any and all Goods sent to the United States of America.”

Trump said the threatened tariff would apply regardless of any existing trade agreement between the United States and the country imposing the digital tax.

“This TARIFF will supersede Trade Deals made with the Country, whether implemented, signed, or not. Additionally, the 100% TARIFF will be immediately imposed, if they proceed. Thank you for your attention to this matter,” he added.

The warning marks another escalation in Trump’s trade policy, which has relied heavily on tariffs as leverage in negotiations with foreign governments. Since imposing his “Liberation Day” tariffs in April 2025, Trump has pursued trade deals with nearly every nation.

Trump previously reached a trade agreement with the European Union, but his latest statement signals he could move to override or disrupt existing arrangements if European countries adopt digital services taxes targeting U.S. companies.

Digital services taxes generally apply to revenue earned by large technology and online services companies. Trump’s statement framed the issue as a direct challenge to American businesses and warned that any country moving forward would face a broad tariff on all goods sent to the United States.

The president did not identify specific European countries by name in the post, but said some were close to implementing the tax. His warning left open the possibility of immediate trade retaliation if any such measure takes effect.
