GLEN SPEY – “I know how it feels when I’m hungry, but I don’t know how it feels to go hungry.”
Those were prophetic words spoken by Sullivan 180 CEO Denise Frangipane during the announcement of the Summer Meal Kit program for students. Her organization, along with the Regional Food Bank, provided the resources for this initiative.
The CEO of the food bank, Tom Nardacci, spoke passionately about the program.
“The excitement that those kids had over fresh apples, it’s just something that, you know, we want to do more and more of.”
The superintendent of the Eldred Central School District, Tracy Ferriera, said that if kids don’t eat, they can’t learn.
“It’s not just about being without food, lack of food, being hungry. It impacts your cognitive development,” she said.
Assemblywoman Paula Kay echoed the need to provide food for kids and families. “It’ll be exciting for the families to open these boxes and see what’s in there and what they have to look forward to.”
Frangipane quoted Mother Teresa. “If you cannot feed 100 people, then feed just one.”
