TOWN OF SOUTHEAST – A 41-year-old resident of Brewster faces felony charges of criminal possession of a weapon and menacing for allegedly displaying a handgun during a road rage incident on Route 121 near I-84 in Southeast.

Putnam Sheriff Brian Hess reported the arrest Wednesday of Brandon Tompkins in connection with the alleged incident.

According to the sheriff, a 9-1-1 call sent members of his department to the scene where the complainant reported the driver of a black pick-up truck stopped his vehicle and pulled a handgun. “The victim was able to drive away and contact authorities while the suspect fled,” said Hess.

The sheriff said while a deputy was enroute to the call, he found a vehicle matching the description provided by the complainant and conducted a traffic stop. 

Tompkins was arrested without incident, and deputies recovered a loaded Glock .45-caliber handgun from inside the vehicle, Hess said.

Tompkins was processed at the sheriff’s office and arraigned in Southeast, where bail was set at $500 cash or $1,000 bond.

The top charge carries a maximum seven-year state prison term if found guilty.
