NEW PALTZ – Harmony Hall, a new 51-unit senior affordable housing complex in New Paltz, was officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony shortly after noon Wednesday.

Town Supervisor Tim Rogers is thrilled with the new homes for seniors.

“It’s heartwarming,” said Tim Rogers, New Paltz town supervisor, “the idea of having residents so excited about where they live. So very grateful it’s taking place.”

The entrance of Harmony Hall, off South Mainheim Boulevard, is directly across from SUNY New Paltz’s main parking lot.

Residents, without cars, are within easy walking distance of the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail and downtown restaurants in a community where one-bedroom apartments are about $1,900 per month. Harmony Hall residents will pay about $900 per month to live there.

Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger said the affordability of the apartments is critical.

“It’s about community, it’s about independence,” said Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger. “That’s what we want for all of our seniors, all of our residents.”

The county executive also said it is “a model of what we can all accomplish when we’re working together at all of these levels. It really is public, private, local, county, state coming together for a shared purpose.”
