President Donald Trump said Iran told the United States it is not seeking tolls, insurance costs or other charges on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, warning that false information on the issue could end talks with Tehran.

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that Iran has informed the United States it is not trying to collect tolls, insurance costs or any other fees from vessels moving through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important shipping corridors.
In a morning Truth Social post, Trump disputed media reports he said had falsely suggested Tehran was attempting to impose new charges or restrictions on commercial shipping through the narrow waterway linking the Persian Gulf to international waters.
“Iran has informed the U.S. that, despite troublemaking Fake News reporting to the contrary, there are ‘NO TOLLS, NO INSURANCE COSTS, & NO OTHER CHARGES OF ANY KIND BEING SOUGHT OR RECEIVED BY IRAN ON SHIPS TRAVELING THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ,’” Trump wrote.
The president said the accuracy of that information is critical as his administration continues negotiations with Iranian officials following months of heightened tensions and military confrontation.
“If this is false information, negotiations would end, immediately!” Trump said.
The Strait of Hormuz is a major maritime chokepoint for global energy shipments, with substantial volumes of oil and natural gas moving through the passage. Any disruption, threat or new cost tied to shipping in the region can raise concerns about supply interruptions and create uncertainty in energy markets.
Trump’s statement came as the administration continues diplomatic efforts aimed at securing long-term stability and preventing Iran from threatening regional security.
The president also denied that Washington had given Iran new funds or released money directly to Tehran.
“Additionally, no money has been given to Iran, or released from their money to them, by the U.S.,” Trump wrote.
Trump said the administration instead intends to use Iranian money currently controlled by the United States to buy American agricultural products for humanitarian use inside Iran.
“We will be releasing some of their money, that is totally controlled by us, to our Farmers and Ranchers, for the purchase of Corn, Wheat, Soybeans, and more,” Trump said.
He added that the purchases would be made from U.S. producers.
“Food is desperately needed in Iran, and we will be purchasing it for them exclusively from the United States.”
The approach outlined by Trump would direct funds under U.S. control toward American farmers and ranchers while providing food for Iran, without transferring cash directly to the Iranian government.
