TOWN OF WAPPINGER – First responders were dispatched to the – KPOU twice on Friday for perceived emergencies. The first incident occurred around 12:30 pm, and the second incident happened at approximately 8 pm.
The noontime call was determined to be one of “good intention” after a passerby reported that a plane had left the runway and stopped in the grass, considered to be a plane “off the runway”. It was determined that the pilot of the small plane had detected an oil leak on the craft and left the runway intentionally to avoid leaking oil on the runway.
On Friday evening, a small plane experienced difficulty after its landing gear collapsed.
The New Hackensack Fire Department responded and was requested to use airbags to lift the plane off the ground, allowing the craft to be removed from the runway.
No injuries were reported.
