Life & Work with Alinda Tian of Ontario

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alinda Tian.

Hi Alinda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?

My name is Alinda Tian, and my journey has been shaped by faith, resilience, and the pursuit of freedom.

I grew up in China and began practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline centered on truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance. Because of my faith, I faced persecution by the Chinese Communist Party. In 2009, I was detained for a month simply because of my beliefs. My husband was later sentenced to three years in prison for refusing to give up his faith. During those difficult years, our family was torn apart.

Seeking safety and freedom, I eventually came to the United States and applied for asylum. Starting over in a new country was not easy. I had to learn a new culture, adapt to a different way of life, and build a future from the ground up. However, America gave me opportunities that I never could have imagined. It gave me the freedom to live according to my beliefs and the chance to pursue my dreams.

After many years of separation, my husband and I were finally reunited in the United States at the end of 2024. It was a moment we had waited more than sixteen years to experience. Today, we live in Southern California, where we continue building the life we once thought was impossible.

Professionally, I work as a Sales Consultant at Crown Lexus in Ontario, California. I enjoy helping people find vehicles that fit their needs and building meaningful relationships with customers. My work allows me to connect with people from all walks of life, and I take pride in providing excellent service.

Looking back, my journey has taught me the importance of perseverance, gratitude, and hope. Although the road has been challenging, every obstacle has strengthened my belief that freedom, faith, and determination can help people overcome even the most difficult circumstances.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?

It has definitely not been a smooth road. The greatest challenge I faced was the persecution of my faith in China.

In 2009, I was detained for a month because of my belief in Falun Gong. My husband was later sentenced to three years in prison for the same reason. For many years, we lived apart and faced uncertainty about our future. Being separated from someone you love for such a long time is emotionally difficult, and there were moments when it felt overwhelming.

When I came to the United States, I faced a different set of challenges. I had to adapt to a new language, a new culture, and a completely different way of life. Like many immigrants, I started over from the beginning and worked hard to build stability and confidence in a new country.

Professionally, entering the automotive industry was also challenging. Sales requires strong communication skills, persistence, and the ability to connect with people from all backgrounds. There were many moments of self-doubt, but I learned to keep improving and focus on serving my customers.

Looking back, every challenge taught me resilience. The difficulties I experienced helped me appreciate freedom, family, and opportunity in a much deeper way. They also taught me that even when circumstances are difficult, it is possible to move forward with faith, determination, and hope.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

I am a Sales Consultant at Crown Lexus in Ontario, California. My role is much more than helping customers purchase a vehicle—I help people make an important life decision with confidence and peace of mind.

I specialize in creating a personalized, low-pressure experience for my clients. Whether someone is purchasing their first luxury vehicle, exploring hybrid technology, or searching for the perfect family car, I take the time to understand their needs and guide them through the process.

What I am most proud of is the trust I build with my customers. In the automotive industry, many people assume success is measured only by sales numbers. While performance is important, I believe lasting relationships are what truly matter. Some customers spend weeks or even months deciding which vehicle is right for them. I have worked with clients who visited the dealership more than a dozen times before making a final decision. Throughout that process, I strive to remain patient, supportive, and consistent because I understand how important the decision is for them.

One experience that stands out involved a customer who had visited multiple dealerships and spent weeks comparing different Lexus models, colors, and options. After many visits and conversations, she eventually purchased her vehicle from me. She later told me that what made the difference was not the vehicle itself, but the patience and respect she felt throughout the process. Moments like that remind me why I love what I do.

What sets me apart is my commitment to service. Sometimes helping a customer means spending seven or eight hours on a single delivery day, or driving several hours to personally deliver a vehicle. While those efforts are not always visible, they are part of my belief that every customer deserves exceptional care and attention.

My life experiences have also shaped the way I work. Having overcome significant challenges and rebuilt my life in a new country, I understand the importance of trust, perseverance, and human connection. Those values guide me every day, both personally and professionally.

At the end of the day, I do not see my job as simply selling cars. I see it as helping people, earning trust, and building relationships that last long after the keys are handed over.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?

One piece of advice I would give to anyone just starting out is to be patient with yourself and trust the process.

When people see someone’s success, they often only see the result. What they do not see are the setbacks, doubts, long hours, and challenges behind it. Every meaningful goal takes time, and growth rarely happens in a straight line.

If I could go back and tell my younger self one thing, it would be this: do not be discouraged when progress feels slow. Keep learning, keep showing up, and keep treating people well. The small actions you take every day eventually add up to something much bigger.

I would also encourage people to focus on relationships rather than immediate results. Whether in business or in life, trust is one of the most valuable things you can build. People may forget what you said or what you sold them, but they will remember how you made them feel.

My own journey has taught me that difficult circumstances do not define your future. No matter where you start or what challenges you face, perseverance, faith, and a positive attitude can open doors you never imagined possible.

Most importantly, never give up on yourself. Sometimes the breakthrough comes after the moment when many people would have quit.
