The District Civics Action Project Showcase on June 10 in the Tata Auditorium at Leominster City Hall celebrated the research and advocacy of Leominster Public Schools’ middle and high school students. It highlighted the students’ Massachusetts Civics Action Projects, which tackled critical local issues such as animal homelessness, the condition of local roads, student nutrition and clothing insecurity. Local government representatives, school committee members, district administration and community partners served as judges, providing valuable feedback on the students’ problem-solving and civic discourse skills.
Superintendent Robin Desmond opened the showcase by celebrating the hard work, leadership and civic engagement demonstrated by the students, emphasizing the vital importance of student voice and the powerful role these young citizens play in addressing issues that matter to their communities.
Jillian Marrone, the head of the Civics Action Project Showcase Committee and humanities content specialist, shared in that pride, stating, “I am incredibly proud of the immense hard work and dedication our students poured into their projects to make a real difference in their community.” Supported generously by local businesses, the successful showcase proved that Leominster’s future is in highly capable hands, she said.
