The city of Fitchburg will hold its 15th annual DPW Day on Wednesday, June 17, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Coolidge Park on John Fitch Highway. “Climb aboard! See our trucks up close,” says a flier the city has produced. The DPW Day is a free, family-friendly event that allows attendees of all ages to explore city maintenance trucks, heavy construction equipment and vehicles from the Police and Fire departments. Event highlights include Hands-on Vehicles: Kids can climb into and explore plows, dump trucks, and other massive public works rigs; Heavy Machinery: Children often get the chance to sit in an excavator with an operator and control the bucket; Activities: Features a giant sandpile, bouncy houses, therapy pets and information from various city departments and community groups.
