LUNENBURG — From the optimism of the Beatles era to the folk-rock sounds that defined a generation, the music of the 1960s and 1970s will take center stage when Leominster musician Randy Austill performs from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, at the Lunenburg Public Library, 1023 Massachusetts Ave.

Part of the library’s Monthly Music Series, the concert will feature many of Austill’s favorite pop-rock hits from the era, along with selections of jazz, folk and other classic favorites.

Austill is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist with decades of experience performing in bands, choirs and as a solo artist.

A guitarist, bassist, keyboard player and singer, he began making music as a teenager and earned a bachelor’s degree in music from Wesleyan University, including a year of study at Berklee College of Music in Boston.

For Austill, performing is about more than sharing songs; it is about creating meaningful connections through music.

“I love singing and playing guitar, and it becomes even more meaningful when I can share that experience with an audience,” Austill said. “What I value most is seeing the music resonate — when it touches people, even in a small way, and helps them feel a little more alive. Moments like that give me hope.”

Drawing from an era known for its creativity and cultural change, Austill hopes audience members leave with more than just memories of familiar songs.

“I’d love for people to experience some of the youthful optimism, openness and creative spirit that defined the music of the 1960s and ’70s,” he said. “More than that, I hope the concert creates a sense of shared humanity — a feeling of connection in the room. If people leave feeling a bit more open, more connected, and a little more inspired to engage with one another, that would mean a lot to me.”

Registration is encouraged but not required.

The concert is sponsored in part through funding for the Lunenburg Public Library Monthly Music Series, supported by North End Subaru.
