Israel killed the head of Hamas’s main fund transfer network and five other members of the Gaza-based group.
The operation comes a day after the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) carried out a strike on Hamas’ main police headquarters in the Khan Yunis area.
According to an IDF statement released on Wednesday, Khader Jamasi, the head of Hamas’ fund transfer network, and his deputy, Muhammad Harazin, were killed during the operation. The IDF described both men as key financial operatives responsible for managing and transferring funds to Hamas in Gaza.
The Israeli military said the two operated a network of dozens of money exchangers across the Gaza Strip, facilitating the transfer of tens of millions of dollars to Hamas’ military wing.
In addition to its operations in Gaza, the IDF said it continues to target Hezbollah infrastructure and operatives in southern Lebanon.
According to the IDF, troops discovered several Hezbollah weapons storage facilities inside civilian structures in the areas of Zawtar al-Gharbiyah and Zawtar al-Sharqiyah. The recovered weapons reportedly included Kalashnikov rifles, anti-tank missiles, launchers, magazines, grenades, communication devices, and drones.
The IDF also stated that one of the storage sites was located inside a civilian building and contained dozens of weapons stored alongside a baby crib, which it said highlighted Hezbollah’s practice of concealing military assets within civilian areas.
Israel, which recently paused military exchanges with Iran amid diplomatic efforts over Iran’s nuclear program involving the United States, has repeatedly stated that any negotiations or agreements with Tehran will not alter its objective of dismantling Hamas and Hezbollah.
The current conflict traces its origins to the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attack on Israel, during which approximately 1,200 people were killed and around 250 were taken hostage, according to Israeli authorities. The ensuing war has continued to fuel military operations across Gaza and heightened tensions along Israel’s northern border with Lebanon.
