FITCHBURG — There’s a call out for art submissions for the Unity in the Community Window Art Project that will be featured downtown.

Gallery Marquee and the City of Fitchburg are inviting people to submit their original artwork for the new public art display that will take over windows up and down Main Street and decorate them with creative creations. The deadline to submit is by midnight on Friday June 12 for the project that will turn the art into large scale printed vinyl decals that will be adhered to participating business, retail, and organizations’ ground floor windows.

According to information found on the application form, Unity in the Community stands for love for one another, peace, respect, and communication, and it means neighborhood pride, togetherness, and uplifting the community. People are welcome to submit up to three different artworks, you do not have to be a city resident to participate, and it will be on display from July 1 to Nov. 15.

“We may not all come from the same backgrounds, or points of view; we may not share the same politics, language, or religion, but we are all humans sharing spaces with one another and can put shared harmony above all of our differences,” the info states.

The intent behind the project is to bring the community together through public works of art, to bring visitors into the city, contribute to tourism in Fitchburg’s developing arts district, and to highlight the talent and voices of the area’s artists.

“Gallery Marquee’s Unity in the Community Window Art Project is especially important at this moment because there is a lot of divisiveness going on everywhere,” said Gallery Marquee Board Treasurer Bridie Wolejko of what inspired it. “We are looking to bolster neighborhood pride and bring people together through positive imagery that everyone can access and that can help creatively shape the downtown Fitchburg landscape.”
