The eighth game in the new chapter of the Lowell Spinners will be a special one.
On Saturday, the first pitch of the game between the Spinners and Worcester Bravehearts will be thrown at 5 p.m. at LeLacheur Park in Lowell.
But there’s so much to the night than a nine-inning Futures Collegiate Baseball League game.
The game marks Johnny Damon Bobblehead Night, as the former Boston Red Sox star and world champion will be in attendance.
The gates open at 3:30 p.m., and from 4-4:45 p.m. fans will get an opportunity to talk with Damon in a special meet-and-greet in the Sea Dog Brewpen.
Damon, part of the Spinners’ limited ownership group, will be honored in a pre-game ceremony from 4:45-5 p.m.
Perhaps the highlight of the day will occur from 5-5:30 p.m. when Damon, who also played for the New York Yankees, has agreed to appear in the Kids’ Zone dunk tank wearing the Yankees’ pinstripes during the first inning.
Fans will have three shots to dunk Damon, who’s fresh off his induction into the Red Sox Hall of Fame.
Fans are encouraged to buy tickets ahead of time for $13, or upgrade to the Meet Johnny pre-game in the Brewpen for all-you-can-eat pizza ($18) or BBQ ($30).
The Spinners enter the game riding a two-game winning streak after a rough start.
Thanks to a thrilling three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth, the Spinners celebrated a 5-4 walk-off victory Thursday night at LeLacheur Park.
Lowell (2-5) has won two straight and fans will long remember the finish. Down 4-2 to the Norwich Sea Unicorns (3-4), the Spinners rallied to win when Esteban Dessureault walked with the bases loaded.
Jordan Henriquez, a former Lawrence Academy star, pulled Lowell to within 4-3 when he doubled to score Brett McKinnon. Nic Lembo then tied it with a single to right field to plate Henriquez.
Henriquez blasted a two-run homer to right field in the seventh to get Lowell on the board. UMass Lowell star Cal Chance also collected two hits.
The homestand continues Sunday (5 p.m.) and Monday (11 a.m.) with games against Vermont.
